RadiSys Corps new R380EX system controller for the Intel 386 EX embedded µ lets you develop PC-compatible embedded applications. The chip offers a true single-chip ISA bus controller. It controls as much as 64 bytes of page-mode or extended-data-out DRAM and supports flash single in-line memory modules. The device also integrates a real-time clock; keyboard or mouse, enhanced-IDE, and speaker controllers; as much as 16 bits of digital I/O; and four programmable I/O chip selects. The R380EX generates a standard ISA bus interface. The device also supports onboard peripherals, such as timer/counters and interrupt and DMA controllers.
The R380EX operates from 5 or 3.3V and has power-management features to support battery-powered applications. It comes in a 20-pin PQFP and operates over the industrial-temperature range of 40 to +85°. It will be available in volume in February and costs $19.30 (10,000). -- by John Gallant
