AT&T Microelectronics new 3.3V ATT2TxxA family of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) includes nine devices having 4000 to 60,000 gates. The 5V ATT2CxxA, a 0.35-µ implementation of the companys existing 0.5-µ FPGAs, comprises eight devices with 4000 to 40,000 gates. Both the 3.3 and 5V products provide I/O interfaces to logic using either voltage.
According to the company, the move from a 0.5- to a 0.35-mm process reduces the device cost up to 50% and provides a 30% speed increase within each programmable function unit (PFU), the standard building block in this architecture. Both families also offer new architectural features, including synchronous and dual-port RAM implementations plus improved comparators and multiplexers for faster operation. Each PFU now includes a 4 X 1 multiplier for speeding signal-processing applications. Both of the new device families are bit-stream-compatible with Orca devices and work as drop-in replacements in existing designs. The first member of the new families, the 15,000-gate ATT2C15A, will be available early next year and costs $59 in high volumes. -- by Doug Conner
