The above universal resource locator belongs to EDN. You should now be able to log onto your favorite design magazine through the Internet’s World Wide Web. Because I’m writing this editorial before the service goes into operation, I can’t tell you exactly what you’ll find when you log on. I do know you’ll find EDN’s most recent issues and at least one or two surprises.

In the near future, you’ll find the very things you’ve requested over the past few years. First, you’ll find at least two years’ worth of archived issues of EDN. EDN’s in-depth feature coverage of key design topics in the electronics industry suits on-line archival and retrieval. That’s why so many of you keep all those back issues on your overburdened bookshelves. Our Web-based back-issue archive will be more useful than your bookshelf of back issues in at least one way: They’ll be searchable. However, we’re cooking up ways to make these archives even more useful. Stay tuned.

Within the next few months, we will place a database on-line of the new products EDN has covered over the past year. We’ve used this database at EDN for a year, and our Internet presence will now allow us to make this valuable resource available. At the start, there will be almost 3000 products in the database. That number will steadily increase on a biweekly basis.

Also, by your request, we’ll be making EDN’s huge bulletin-board-system (BBS) file archive available for file-transfer-protocol downloading. There are more than 200 Mbytes of data, files, and programs in this archive. The original BBS will stay up and running for those of you who prefer to get your data via a direct connection.

Over the next year, we’re planning more surprises for you at www.ednmag.com, but I don’t want to spoil the surprises or tip off EDN’s competitors just yet. Please log on early and often to see what we’re up to. You’ll always be welcome.

We developed our Internet plans using the many inputs and requests you’ve sent us over the past several years. EDN is committed to staying your best source of design information, no matter what the delivery medium. As always, if you have ideas for enhancing the information we provide, I’d love to hear from you.
