Agreement aims at uniting disparate video equipment

Versit, a global initiative of Apple, AT&T, IBM, and Siemens, has released the ITU-T H.320 Implementors’ Agreement. The agreement lays the groundwork for interoperability over integrated-services digital-network (ISDN) and other digital transmission facilities. The agreement specifies subsets of options and sequences of commands for desktop voice, video, and data interoperability in point-to-point and multipoint configurations.

Users of videoconferencing products that implement the Versit specifications will be able to take advantage of connectivity over basic-rate ISDN, the most prevalent digital-communications technology, with a balance of bandwidth to accommodate voice, video, and data. Developers can download the Implementors’ Agreement from the Versit home page on the World Wide Web at http://www.versit.com. You can phone the organization at (800) 803-6240. -- by Fran Granville
