Op amp for video, communications slews at 4100 V/µsec

thumbnailFor video distribution and imaging, communications, and other high-speed signal-processing applications, the LM7171 op amp from National Semiconductor has a slew rate of 4100 V/ºsec, twice the rate available from other monolithic devices. The voltage-feedback op amp also provides 220-MHz, 3-dB bandwidth, and 200-MHz unity-gain bandwidth. Open-loop gain is at least 85 dB. Differential phase and gain errors are 0.01% and 0.02×, respectively.

As an added benefit, the LM7171 can provide output current up to 100 mA, commensurate with transformer or laser-diode drive requirements. It operates on ±5 to ±15V supplies and requires 6.5-mA quiescent current at the lower supply value. It’s available in eight-pin DIP or SOIC and wide-body, 16-pin SOIC packages. Prices begin at $1.29 (1000). -- by Bill Schweber
