Audio power amps come in isolated TO-220 package

National Semiconductor Corp is now offering 20 to 68W audio power amps in electrically isolated TO-220 packages. The new package eliminates the need for a mica or similar insulating washer between the device and its heat sink. In addition, this style provides inherent safety, because it avoids the consequences of accidental short circuits during manufacturing. The thermal gradient [theta]jc of this isolated TO-220 is 1.6°/W, approaching the value for a standard nonisolated package.
