Video multiplexer/demultiplexer offers low on-resistance
The CMOS P15V330 quad two-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer from Pericom Semiconductor features an on-resistance (R.on) of 3(ohm)less than one-tenth the value of pin-compatible comparable ICs. Low switch on-resistance is crucial to maintaining signal fidelity in these devices. In some cases, this value eliminates the need for an output buffer amplifier. With 180-MHz bandwidth at 3 dB into a 75(ohm) load, the device works well for switching and selecting RGB and composite-video signals.
The 5V device switches in 10 nsec and has crosstalk of less than 60 dB at 10 MHz. It can supply output current as high as 100 mA. The 16-pin IC, available in 150- and 300-mil-wide plastic SOICs, costs $1.50 (5000). by Bill Schweber
