Military power vendor branches into commercial and space venues

With an ever-shrinking US military-procurement budget, military dc/dc-converter vendor Interpoint has expanded into growing economic segments: high-performance industrial/commercial, military commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS), and space applications. The first step was to offer a line of standard converters for the high-performance industrial/commercial and COTS markets. The company’s VP series of converters spans the range of 6 to 45W with prices from $90 to $135. All converters in this series operate over a temperature range of -40 to +85°C. The company can also screen these products through stress testing for an additional 20% in cost.

The second part of the company’s expansion strategy, prompted by the growth in all forms of space-based communications, is to offer Class K, fully space-qualified converters. To do so, the company will obtain Defense Electronic Supply Center Class K certification of the Interpoint production facility. The company is taking orders now for space-qualified converters, which it plans to ship this year.
