Designed primarily for battery-powered systems, OR5 dc/dc converter modules furnish a fully regulated output over a 5-to-1 input-voltage range that extends both above and below the output voltage. The 1W converters come in versions with a fixed-voltage output of 3.3, 5, 6, 9, or 12V and accept an input in the range of 3 to 15V. Switching frequency is typically 70 kHz, and a PWM topology ensures fixed-frequency operation with no subharmonics. Housed in a single in-line module, the OR5 costs $36 (100). The Saelig Co, Victor, NY. (716) 425-3753.

10W dc/dc converter comes in 1×2-in. package.

Housed in a six-sided EMI/RFI-shielded package that is 1×2×0.375-in., the LW10 dc/dc converter delivers 10W and operates at a typical efficiency of 84%. The LW10 offers a 2:1 input range of 9 to 18V dc, 18 to 36V dc, or 36 to 72V dc. Line-and-load regulations for both are ±1%. Ripple and noise are rated at 200 mV rms. The LW10 converter costs $18 in OEM quantities. Polytron Devices Inc, Paterson, NJ. (201) 345-5885.

Modules customize switching supply’s outputs.

An open-frame-switching power supply, the Model M500, lets you mix and match up to seven fixed or adjustable auxiliary outputs. The 500W supply provides a main output of 5V dc at 55A. Up to three auxiliary modules provide adjustable outputs of 4.5 to 8.5V at 10A, 10.5 to 17V at 10A, and 20 to 28V at 5A. The M500 also lets you select any two fixed-voltage modules: 5, 12, 15, or 24V at 1A. A universal input allows continuous operation between 90 and 264V ac. At full load, the M500 is rated for operation from 0 to 50°C, with a temperature coefficient of 2%/°C from 50 to 70°C. The supply costs $0.85/W (OEM). Xentek Inc, San Marcos, CA. (619) 471-4001.

Power supplies correct power factor.

Configured with single or multiple outputs, the LP 250 series of 250W power supplies offers not only power-factor correction, but also IEC 555-2 compliance, remote sense, remote inhibit, and overvoltage protection. Units are enclosed in U-channel housing that measures 5×9×2-in. Single-output supplies cost $224.50; quad versions cost $246.23 (100). Astec America Inc, Carlsbad, CA. (619) 757-1880.

Line conditioners accept universal input.

Global Power line conditioners automatically accept input voltages from 80 to 300V ac and frequencies of 40 to 70 Hz and supply a regulated output of 120 or 220V ac and a switch-selectable between 50 and 60 Hz. Units are available with power ratings of 1500 and 3000 VA and provide ±2% output-voltage regulation. The 19-in., rack-mount conditioners cost $995. Perfect Power Inc, Danbury, CT. (203) 748-7001.

Converter handles 20W.

The GC series of 20W dc/dc converters provides single and dual outputs of 5, 12, or 15V dc. The units are housed in a 2×1.6×0.40-in. metal case, making them useful for applications where space is critical. Input voltages range from 18 to 36V dc and 36 to 72V dc. Typical efficiency is 85%. The GC converters cost about $30 (OEM). Semiconductor Circuits Inc, Windham, NH. (603) 893-2330.
