Using only a 3.3V supply, the VSC7126 Fibre Channel transceiver from Vitesse Semiconductor supports a 1.0625-Gbps baud rate (100-Mbps data rate) and dissipates less than 650 mW, approximately one-quarter the dissipation of previous ICs. The device, for high-speed serial links, implements clock recovery and clock multiplication using a single PLL to avoid injection locking, noise, and crosstalk problems common in high-speed transceivers. The JEDEC 64-lead device is available in 10-mm, thermally enhanced and 14-mm PQFP packages for $39 and $37, respectively (1000).
