Three-platter drive stores 2 Gbytes of data
Reducing the number of platters and heads in a disk drive provides the most direct route to lower cost, and Maxtor now offers a 2-Gbyte drive that uses only three platters. The 72004AP/A features an average seek time lower than 12 msec, an Enhanced IDE interface, and a 128-kbyte buffer. Available now through OEM and retail channels, the drive will cost as little as $370 at discount retail outlets.
