Flat panel offers 17.7-in. color LCD.

Boasting a resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels, the LM10C83 is a 17.7-in.-diagonal color STN LCD. The XGA unit offers twice the amount of display area of VGA passive color displays and approximates the viewing area of a 20- to 21-in. CRT. Specifications include a dot pitch yielding 72 pixels/in., a contrast ratio of 25-to-1, and a brightness of 150 cd/m2. Sample price is $1095. Sharp Electronics Corp, Camas, WA. (800) 642-0261.

Space-saving 10-in. CRT monitor responds to touch.

Measuring <12 in. in each dimension, the VM-10 10-in. CRT-based touch monitor fits into small spaces. The unit comes with either a ClearTek analog capacitive or a VersaTouch resistive touchscreen. Based on an SVGA color monitor, the VM-10 displays images with resolutions ranging from 640 X 480 to 1024 X 768 pixels with a 0.26-mm dot pitch. Respective prices for the VersaTouch and Clear- Tek versions are $1280 and $1395. MicroTouch Systems Inc, Methuen, MA. (508) 659-9000.

12.1-in. LCD screen matches 14-in. CRT-monitor image.

The PowerScreen 12.1-in. LCD monitor provides the same graphics capability and image size as those of a 14-in. CRT monitor, with reductions in weight, size, and power consumption (<30w). The 8-lb, 1.5-in.-deep module has an active-matrix LCD that provides 1024 X 768-pixel resolution. It supports Sun Systems and VESA standards in both embedded and desktop applications. The PowerScreen has a palette of 4096 colors and uses a dot pitch of 0.24 mm (106 dpi). Its specs include 1-to-1 pixel-aspect, 4-to-3 screen-aspect, and 80-to-1 contrast ratios and 110-cd/m2 brightness. The price for a single-unit sample is $4995. RDI Computer Corp, Carlsbad, CA. (619) 929-0992.

Panel display serves embedded industrial applications.

Comprising a serial controller, a color or monochrome flat-panel display, and a mounting frame, the ESM1 display module provides VT-100 emulation and embedded screen-storage capabilities for fast screen response. The unit comes with an active-matrix thin-film-transistor LCD or an electroluminescent display. Modules, which incorporate an optional IR touchscreen, operate under hostile conditions, including the high humidity, shock, and vibration often found in industrial environments. Prices start at $2700. Lucas Control System Products, Hayward, CA. (510) 471-4700.

Plug-and-play display protected in NEMA 4X enclosure.

Sealed in type 304 vanadium stainless steel, the PanelMount industrial display works in harsh industrial environments. You can specify active-matrix thin-film-transistor LCD panels ranging from 10.4 to 14.2 in. with resolutions of as many as 1024 X 768 pixels. When you combine the display with a 24-bit color controller, PanelMount displays 262,000 simultaneous colors from a palette of 16.7 million. The unit's input translator locks onto the analog input signal and converts it into the synchronized drive for the digital color flat panel. The NEMA-4X-compliant display operates over a temperature range of 0 to 50°C. Prices range from $2900 to $6900. Dolch Computer Systems, Fremont, CA. (510) 661-2220.

Flat-panel displays sport bright backlight.

A backlighting system provides high ambient-light visibility for 10.4-in. SVGA and VGA, 8.4-in. VGA, and 6.4-in. VGA color thin-film-transistor (TFT) LCDs. The Ultra-HiBrite line of flat-panel display systems offers several configurations, including a plug-in monitor type and models with a PC-bus flat-panel driver card. Units are also available with a PC/104- or ISA-bus-expandable single-board computer. Ultra-HiBrites have an MTBF of 20,000 hours. A plug-in monitor version with a 900-nit, 10.4-in., VGA, active-matrix, TFT LCD costs $4325 (25). Computer Dynamics, Greenville, SC. (864) 627-8800.

TFT LCD furnishes 14.1-in. XGA display.

Large enough for desktop applications, the NL10276AC28-01 color thin-film-transistor (TFT) LCD is a 14.1-in. XGA panel offering a resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels. A built-in backlight increases brightness to 200 nits (compared to 70 nits for a standard notebook panel). The unit, which is 19 mm thick and weighs 1400g, operates from a 3.3V supply. Samples cost about $3600. NEC Electronics Inc, Mountain View, CA. (800) 366-9782.

SVGA flat panel has 11.3-in.-diagonal display.

Featuring 6-bit color with a palette of 262,144 colors, the FLC29SVC6S 11.3-in. SVGA active-matrix, thin-film-transistor LCD gives you 19% more screen area and 56% higher information content than a comparable 10.4-in. VGA display. The unit has an 800 X 600-pixel resolution with a dot pitch of 0.288 X 0.288 mm and an effective viewing area of 230.4 X 172.8 mm. Typical brightness is rated at 70 cd/m2, and contrast ratio is 100-to-1. The panel requires a 3.3V-dc supply and consumes 2.6W. Evaluation samples cost $2200. Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc, San Jose, CA. (408) 922-9000.

Large-digit display shows 2.3-in. LEDs. Users can read these large-digit displays from 65 ft. The devices come in several models, all of which use 2.3-in.-high red LEDs. Six-digit counter models display pulse inputs from a contact or noncontact proximity or photoelectric sensor. The five-digit tachometer/surface model displays inputs from a photoelectric sensor up to 9999.9 rpms or 999.99 yards/minute. Counter models come with or without a setpoint and a 2.5A relay output. Prices start at $499. Extech Instruments Corp, Waltham, MA. (617) 890-7440.

Monochrome display offers VGA compatibility.

Based on Epson's super-metal-insulator-metal technology, the LB6VGM active-matrix LCD provides higher contrast ratios and wider viewing angles than those of conventional passive-matrix displays. The 6.3-in. VGA display provides a resolution of 640 X 480 pixels, a fluorescent side light, an antireflective polarizer, and 12- and 6-o'clock viewing angles. Its 80-to-1 high-contrast black-and-white display actuates in the normally white mode. The LB6VGM costs $320 (OEM). Epson America Inc, Torrance, CA. (310) 782-0770.
