Dual PLL frequency synthesizers target wireless equipment.

You can use five dual-serial-input PLL frequency synthesizers in the RF- and IF-mixer-frequency sections of wireless-communications systems. The Bobcat family includes the WB1331 with 2.0-GHz and 510-MHz prescalers, the WB1332 with 1.2-GHz and 510-MHz prescalers, and the WB1333 with dual 510-MHz prescalers for dual-conversion receiver applications. You can use the WB1310 with dual 1.2-GHz prescalers and the WB1305 with dual 510-MHz prescalers for the transmit and receive sections of wireless systems. The devices operate from a 2.7 to 5.5V single source and offer phase detection to 45 MHz. In the power-down mode, the synthesizers typically draw <1 µA when connected to a 3.0V source. Octal-bus switches multiplex transparently. A family of octal bus switches provides flexible bus control in large multiprocessor systems. The FST3xxx and FST32xxx solve common bus-interface problems associated with shared memory and multiple processors, without adding propagation delay, timing skew, noise, design complexity, or power consumption. The devices come in 5 and 28 Ohm resistor versions and typically consume 0.1 &$181;A of quiescent current. Packaging options for both series include QSOP, PDIP, and SOIC configurations. UART and controller deliver PnP ability.

Two devices, both housed in PLCCs, enable plug-and-play (PnP) operation when used on PC expansion boards, such as fax/modems, memory, and graphics cards. The TL16PNP550A UART performs the serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial data conversions needed for a PC's serial port. In PnP bypass mode, you can switch off the device's PnP function so that the device simply operates as a UART. In UART bypass mode, the TL16PNP550A functions as a PnP controller for use on boards that do not need UART functions. The second device, the TL16PNP100A, is a stand-alone PnP controller that manages two logical devices and has a three-pin interface. 300-MHz voltage-feedback amp slews 1100 V/µsec.

A two-gain-stage architecture gives the MAX477 ±5V op amp a 300-MHz Ð3-dB bandwidth, 130-MHz 0.1-dB gain flatness, and an 1100V/µsec slew rate. The output stage of the MAX477 delivers 100 mA and drives capacitive loads >100 pF without oscillations. Guaranteed ac parameters include a differential gain-and-phase of 0.01% and 0.01°, a total harmonic distortion of Ð78 dBc at 10 MHz, and a settling time of 12 nsec accurate to within 0.01%. Timekeeping controller includes A/D conversion.

The DS1670 portable system controller melds timekeeping, CPU monitoring, A/D conversion, and nonvolatile control functions into a single 20-pin TSSOP or SOIC package. You can use the part to reduce the component count and power requirements in mobile phones, handheld global-positioning-system receivers, personal digital assistants, and any portable equipment that needs a timekeeper. Frequency-synthesizer IC caps power consumption.

A PLL frequency synthesizer, the Q3236, needs <0.6w of nominal power and operates at speeds as high as 2 GHz. You can use the device in communications applications, including cellular and paging base stations, modems, and lab instrumentation. The Q3236 offers three programmable control interface options: direct parallel, 8-bit bus, and serial loading. An on-chip phase/frequency detector operates to 100 MHz. Also included on chip is a divide-by-10/11 dual-modulus prescaler with a programmable feedback divider. Housed in a 44-pin PLCC, the 5V part costs $29.95 (100). Qualcomm Inc, San Diego, CA. Laser-diode driver improves printing.

For use in laser printers and copiers, the AD9661A laser-diode driver combines a fast output-current switch with an analog feedback loop to better control the final document image. Rise and fall times are 1.5 nsec typ. The driver works from a 5V supply and delivers as much as 120 mA to an infrared N-type laser. The analog feedback loop lets you calibrate the power level of the laser and switch the laser at rates as high as 200 MHz. Control signals are TTL/CMOS-compatible. Logic devices program in system.

You can program the first two members of the Performance Plus family of complex programmable-logic devices (CPLDs), the MACH211SP and MACH231SP, after they have been soldered onto a system board, virtually eliminating the need for prototype sockets and stand-alone programming equipment. The 44-pin MACH211SP, a 64-macrocell device with 7.5-nsec pin-to-pin delays, operates at a maximum frequency of 133 MHz. The 100-pin MACH231SP, a 128-macrocell device with 10-nsec pin-to-pin delays, operates to 100 MHz. Both devices are PCI-compliant. Ethernet controller is CardBus-compliant.

Operating at 10 or 100 Mbps, the 21142 Fast Ethernet controller's TQFP option and 32-bit interface provide CardBus compliance for mobile- and portable-PCMCIA applications. The 3.3V chip accommodates both 3.3 and 5.0V signaling, functions as a PCI-bus master, and handles DMA transfers at burst rates as high as 200 Mbps. The chip's 10-Mbps implementation includes an integrated 10BaseT transceiver and AUI port. Through a media-independent interface, the device supports 10/100BaseT operation and all media types. ICs enhance digital-audio systems.

Two ADCs, the 20-bit AK5350 and the 24-bit AK5391, achieve a wide dynamic range of sound through the use of a dual-bit architecture. Housed in a 28-pin VSOP, the AK5350 two-channel converter spans a dynamic range of 100 dB, and the AK5391 two-channel device operates through a dynamic range of 115 dB. A third unit, the AK4531 codec, provides a five-channel record and playback mixer for external FM and wave-table synthesizers. Op amp slews at 1500V/msec from 5V supply.

Operating at a bandwidth of 120 MHz, the LM6317 op amp delivers a slew rate of 1500V/µsec and requires a supply voltage of only 5V. The wide bandwidth and high slew rate provide fast settling for driving flash ADCs or buffering DACs. The op amp comes in eight-pin PDIP and SOIC configurations and costs $1.69 (1000). Fuzzy-logic controller is repackaged in economical PLCC.

A reduced cost version of the WARP (weight-associative-rule-processor) fuzzy-logic controller comes in an 84-lead PLCC for cost-sensitive applications. Like its ceramic pin-grid-array-packaged counterpart, the WARP 1.1 includes input fuzzification and output defuzzification stages, an inferencing unit, memory banks, antecedents and consequents, and control logic to handle the downloading of rules and variables. Running with a 40-MHz clock, the device handles as many as 16 inputs, 16 outputs, and 256 rules. The Fuzzystudio development system for the WARP 1.1 provides software tools and an application development board that connects to a PC via an RS-232C port. Flash modules come in ultra-slim gull-wing package.

Flash memory modules in both 4- and 16-Mbit storage capacities come in the vendor's G2 housing, a gull-wing package that fits the JEDEC standard 0.990-in.2 JLCC footprint. The WF128K32-XG2X5 comes as 128k X 32 bits, and you can configure it as 256k X 16 or 512k X 8 bits. The WF512K32-XG2X5 comes as 512k X 32 bits and you can configure it as 1M X 16 or 2M X 8 bits. Standing 5.1 mm (0.200 in.) high, the hermetically sealed body of the G2 package is only 22.4 mm (0.880 in.) per side with leads extending to fit the JEDEC 68-lead footprint.
