Start-up launches Dolby Pro Logic IC
Medianix Semiconductor simultaneously announced its birth and intention to provide DSP-based audio ICs along with its first products. The highlight of these products is a DSP-based Dolby Pro Logic Surround Processor. The company claims that its DSP implementation of Dolby's multichannel analog sound standard allows the processor to generate custom sound fields that simulate environments, such as a concert hall or stadium. The IC, Model MED25005, targets both consumer-audio applications, such as audio-visual receivers and set-top boxes, and computer applications, such as sound cards. The company also announced a DSP-based karaoke processor. The ICs are available now and cost less than $10 (OEM).
