Circuit breakers offer UL489 Listing.
The C Series of magnetic circuit breakers offers the UL489 Listing, a norm that allows users to specify small-size breakers for applications demanding high interrupting capacity and current ratings. The C Series is also available with CSA, TUV, and VDE certifications. The breakers incorporate shunt and relay-trip dual coils that provide both overload protection and remote shutdown in the same pole. Wiping contacts use a mechanical linkage with two-step actuation, a structure that cleans contacts and provides positive contact pressure. Options include rocker- or handle-style actuators, a mid-trip handle-actuator position (the handle moves to mid-position upon trip), and clip terminals. The unit costs $11.50 (1000). Carlingswitch Inc, Plainville, CT. (860) 793-9281.

The Model 570 and 580 withstand as much as 1 and 2 kV, respectively, and connect in line to Category 5 cable using modular RJ-45 jacks. Near-end crosstalk is better than -43 dB at 100 MHz. Insertion loss is <0.4 dB at the same frequency. The Model 570 costs $99, and the Model 580 sells for $159. Patton Electronics Co, Gaithersburg, MD. (301) 975-1000.
Offered in 27 profiles, Spring-Line beryllium copper gaskets combine high levels of EMI shielding with low closure force and self-cleaning, spring-finger wiping. Strips can be soft-soldered, resistance-welded, or attached with pressure-sensitive adhesive. You can perform edge-mounting by using integral clips. Gaskets come precut to custom lengths, as well as in standard 16-in. lengths. Prices start at $1/ft (OEM). Chomerics Division of Parker Hannifin, Woburn, MA. (617) 935-4850.
Intended for ESD protection in CMOS and bipolar applications, the StaticGuard Series of low-capacitance transient voltage suppressors handles 100 mJ of transient energy from a single 0805 chip. Rated for operation at any voltage as high as, and including, 18V dc, the device clamps at <50V dc, regardless of operating voltage and responds to transients in <1 nsec. A peak-current capability of 30A complies with IEC 801-2, Level 4 standards. Rated capacitance is <100 pF. StaticGuard suppressors cost $0.109 (100,000). AVX Corp, Myrtle Beach, SC. (803) 448-9411.
Able to operate at temperatures as high as 1258C, the PolySwitch TD1115-S3X Series of resettable fuses are intended for motors that power automotive-door locks, windows, seats, mirrors, and wipers at currents from 6 to 10A. Overcurrent conditions, such as when a seat's gears lock up, cause the PolySwitch to trip before the motor burns out. When the fault is removed, the device resets itself. Packaging options range from basic chip sizes to chips that are attached to terminal devices that have integral connector blades. Prices range from $0.20 to $0.25 in large quantities. Raychem Corp, Menlo Park, CA. (415) 361-3333.
A series of 1206-size multilayer-ferrite beads suppresses noise in high-speed, low-voltage digital circuitry. The surface-mount ILB-1206 Series reduces high-frequency harmonics and unwanted spikes that cause false triggering of input signals. Ten models cover impedance ratings from 19 to 600V (±25%) at 100 MHz. The devices offer dc resistance from 0.1 to 0.75V maximum and current ratings of 100 to 500 mA. Prices start at $0.17 (2500). Dale Electronics Inc, Columbus, NE. (402) 563-6350.
A series of multilayer-ferrite-chip EMI suppressors offers devices in EIA Standard 0603 case sizes. In descending order of impedance at 100 MHz, the series includes the MCB-0603 at 750V, the LCB-0603 at 600V, the JCB-0603 at 300V, the KCB-0603 at 220V, the ICB-0603 at 120V, and the BCB-0603 at 68V. Maximum rated current is 100 mA for the MCB and LCB and 200 mA for the remaining parts. Maximum dc resistance ranges from 1.0 to 0.3V. The parts cost $0.108 (100,000) and come packaged on 8-mm tape. Used in place of panel-mounting nuts, a line of hex-based seals protects potentiometers and rotary switches against environmental contaminants, including oil, water, dust, solvents, and acids. Each seal consists of a flexible rubber boot that is bonded during molding to a threaded metal insert, which fully encapsulates the switch and bushing that extends from the panel. Seals come in standard hex sizes ranging from 0.375 through 0.750 in. and in standard thread sizes from
¼-32 through (5/8)-24. Metric thread sizes are also available. Prices range from $0.74 to $1.16 (1000). AME Corp, Towaco, NJ. (201) 263-1700.
Configured with standard nine- and 25-pin D-subminiature connectors, a line of modular adapters features an internal metal casing that offers as much as 66% better EMI/RFI protection than competing metallized plastic adapters. The nickel-plated shield is sealed inside the plastic outer case, protected against wear, and welded on four sides to form a continuous barrier. RJ-45 termination contacts are nickel-underplated with 50 µin. of gold to meet FCC-68 subpart F requirements. A ferrite filter is optional. The 21EMI-Plus (25-pin) and 29EMI-Plus (nine-pin) adapters cost approximately $3 to $4 (1000). Regal Electronics Inc, Santa Clara, CA. (408) 988-2288.
Mounted on standard DIN rails, the Series 600 line of surge suppressors protects factory data-communication networks operating to 20 Mbps. The Model 610 provides common- and differential-mode surge protection for two-wire balanced networks, such as RS-422 and RS-485. The Model 611 offers common-mode protection for two ground-referenced data lines, such as RS-232C. The peak clamping voltage is 6V for RS-422/485 and 25V for RS-232C.
