PC videoconferencing gets reference design
The DSP Group and Zoran Corp have teamed to boost PC- based videoconferencing. The two companies jointly developed a reference design for a PCI add-in card capable of visual telephony over integrated-services digital-network (ISDN), Internet, or plain-old-telephone-system (POTS) connections. A built-in TV tuner is optional. The design meets International Telecommunication Union standards H.323 and H.324 and can provide a 176×144- pixel image at seven to 12 frames/ sec over a POTS line.
The reference design includes an evaluation board, low-level audio and video drivers, demo application software, and a manufacturing kit with schematics and Gerber plots. The board uses Zoran's ZR36120 PCI multimedia controller IC, the DSP Group's CT8020 audio codec, and a video-decoder IC. The design's bill-of-materials cost is $59 in production quantities.
