Real-time development tool accesses Windows Ring 0
Spectron's IA-SPOX software developers' kit (SDK) for Windows 95 gives application developers access to the Windows inner circle. There, at Ring 0, Windows 95 offers high-performance real-time services and a link to the Pentium Processor's multimedia-extension (MMX) instructions. Access to this inner ring lets application software meet real-time constraints while running under the Windows 95 OS. The SPOX operating system can run on DSPs as well as the Pentium processor, so you can easily port applications designed for the Pentium to DSP add-in cards for acceleration.
The SDK includes a library of C-callable real-time services, the Win SPOX dynamic-link libraries and utilities to link the two operating systems, a source-level debugger, and the Native Audio subsystem. The subsystem is a set of tools, applets, and drivers that gives developers access to Windows 95 audio functions through SPOX. The complete developers kit costs $4995, and runtime licenses are free from SPOX licensees.
