Zilog is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the Z80 µP family. The Z80 and family members Z180 and Z380 have a huge installed software base and provide embedded control in products such as games, printers, modems, faxes, personal digital assistants, communications equipment, and wireless telephones. Jim Magill, company vice president and general manager of the data-communications division, attributes the Z80's continued success to architectural improvements and the integration of many on-chip functions that increase performance and functionality.
