IC conditions and compensates resistive bridge sensors

The SCA2095 from Integrated Sensor Solutions is a 16-pin SOIC that interfaces directly to the sensor, providing an analog output that you can use in a data-acquisition and -control system. The 5V IC with 1-MV input impedance lets you digitally set coarse and fine gain and offset coefficients for trimming, as well as gain and offset temperature coefficients. The IC stores these settings in internal EEPROM. A built-in sensor compensates for temperature-induced output changes; you can also invoke piecewise sensor-linearization factors. The IC includes an alarm-output line that lets you know if a sensor lead is broken. The 1.6 kHz bandwidth device has an accuracy of ±1% of full scale. It costs $5 (10,000); an evaluation kit with parallel-port PC interface is also available.—by Bill Schweber
