Quad suppressor saves board space.

These surface-mount transient-voltage suppressors contain four junctions in a single six-pin SC-59 package for automated board assembly. The devices reduce insertion costs and conserve board space. The quad-junction monolithic common-anode design of the devices protects four lines against ESD. The MMQA5V6T1 comes in two voltages and contains four 5.6V junctions, and the MMQA20VT1 provides four 20V junctions. Both devices have 24W pk power at 1-msec unidirectional waveforms. They come taped and reeled and cost $0.21 each (3000 devices/reel).

Diode array clamps as many as six signal lines.

The DA112S1 comes in an SO-8 package and contains 12 diodes configured as six cells of two series-connected diodes for protecting as many as six high-speed transmission lines from damaging voltage transients. Each of the DA112S1's 12 diodes withstands a peak reverse voltage of 18V, enabling you to use the device to protect signals in 3, 5, and 12V systems. Repetitive peak forward current is 12A (8/20-msec surge). The diodes also have a <35-pF capacitance. The DA112S1 costs $0.59 (100,000).

Circuit protector sits in DO-35 package.

With dimensions of 4.631.8 mm, this through-hole circuit protector conforms to the DO-35 outline, as EIA/JEDEC Publication 95 details. The protector captures each chip between axial leads and encapsulates them in glass. The DO-35 devices offer voltage ratings of 32V ac/dc and current ratings of 250, 375, 500, and 750 mA and 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 3.5A. All parts are color-coded according to current rating and meet UL and CSA requirements. The circuit protectors cost $0.085 (OEM).

Electroconductive plastic housings ward off EMI/RFI.

The JITshield family of plastic housings protects electronic components against the effects of broad-spectrum electronic noise and offer a lightweight alternative to solid-metal housings. A matrix of ultrathin stainless-steel filament elements permeates the plastic material, making shielding an integral part of the housing. Shielding characteristics depend on the thickness of the housing wall but typically offer a 40-dB reduction. The price for a Series C Model CC/JS housing, which measures 2.63331.7532.75 in., is $1.39 (144).

Card monitors ac power line for overvoltage and undervoltage.

Comprising a battery-powered PIC16C71 mP on a 4333/8-in. pc board, the Model SPPC-3 controls an off-card, solid-state relay that disconnects the load if the ac power-line voltage leaves programmed limits. Voltage limits are 200 to 240V when you set the jumper for 220V operation and 210 to 250V when you select 230V operation. The power available for the controlled relay is 5V dc at 6 mA maximum. Load current depends on the relay rating. The circuit automatically resets itself and reconnects the load 90 sec after the line voltage returns within limits. The Model SPPC-3 type 3 pc board costs $38.

Overvoltage array protects six lines.

Replacing 12 discrete diodes, the SP723 array of 24 transistors in a silicon-controlled rectifier configuration protects as many as six lines from 15-kV ESD. The array offers full suppression to Level 4 of the IEC 1000 standard (IEC 1000-4-2). Switching in <6 nsec, the SP723 handles 7A pk current and a single 100-msec pk transient of ±4A. The SP723 comes in eight-pin plastic DIPs and SOIC packages and costs $1.10 (1000). SOIC versions on tape and reel cost $1.14 (1000).
