Low-profile supply delivers 750W.

Standing just 2.5 in. high, the Model 05D-0186-01 packs five outputs in a 1435-in. housing to achieve a total power output of 750W. The power supply, the first in the 186 series, accepts a universal input range of 90 to 264V ac at 47 to 63 Hz with power factor correction of 0.99 at full load. Outputs include 5V dc at 100A, 12V dc at 12A, –12V dc at 10A, 5V dc at 5A (floating), and 3.3V dc at 30A. The unit offers N+1 redundant operation with current sharing on the 5V/100A and 3.3V/30A outputs. The Model 05D-0186-01 costs $627. Conversion Equipment Corp, Orange, CA. (714) 637-2970.

50W supplies accept range of inputs.

Configured with single, dual, or triple outputs, the M series of 50W power supplies provides full power to 718C without fans or derating. You can choose from six input voltage ranges, including 8 to 35, 14 to 70, 20 to 100, 28 to 140, 44 to 220, and 88 to 372V dc, as well as universal ac input. Lockout circuitry disables the output when the input voltage is outside of its range. Units carry input transient protection of as much as 8400V dc. Prices start at $433 (50). Melcher Inc, Chelmsford, MA. (508) 256-1812.

UPS offers as much as 450 VA in attractive package.

Weighing in at <9 lb, the Pulsar ES2 and ES4 UPSs feature an ergonomic slim-line design that complements PC environments while furnishing 250 and 450 VA of power protection, respectively. The Pulsar ES2 powers a Pentium-based PC for as long as 20 min; the Pulsar ES4 runs a PC and ink jet printer for 10 min. Both units come in an 11.43 11.631.8-in. package and operate at voltages from 94 to 132V. A communications port on the ES4 connects to small office networks. Prices for the Pulsar ES2 and ES4 are $129 and $199, respectively. MGE UPS Systems Inc, Costa Mesa, CA. (714) 557-1636.

350W switching supply has as many as five outputs.

You can configure the Kestrel VWF350 switch-mode power supply with three, four, or five outputs capable of delivering 350W of continuous output power. The compact 2.53 539.5-in. supply mounts in any orientation without derating. Operating with a universal input from 85 to 264V ac and power-factor correction of 0.99, the VWF350 has three standard outputs that are adjustable from 3.3 to 5.5V at 50A and 11.4 to 12.6V at 6A. The optional fourth and fifth outputs are floating and provide 3.3, 5, 12, or 24V. Prices start at $250 (1000). Advance Power Inc, Solon, OH. (216) 349-0755.

1200W switcher provides N+1 redundancy.

For applications that cannot tolerate downtime, the MDS102 19-in. rack system houses three power-supply modules that ease field replacement while the system is operating. The 1200W switching system gives you two outputs: 5V at 120A and 12V at 50A. Each module corrects the ac input line power factor to better than 98%. The MDS102 also provides protection against various ac line voltage problems, including blackout and brownout conditions. Modules limit initial in-rush current to 16A independent of temperature. Prices start at $1250. Fuji Hi-Tech Inc, Fremont, CA. (510) 651-0811.

Windows-based UPS software eases installation, monitoring.

Included with all Opti-UPS units, the Power Management Software Suite not only offers plug-and-play installation under Windows 95, but also provides unattended shutdown for several OSs in the event of a power outage. The software even closes all open files under Windows 95. The single CD supports UPS monitoring for NetWare, DOS, and Windows NT, 95, and 3.x. From $139. ViewSonic Corp, Walnut, CA. (909) 869-7976.

Benchtop supplies span 90 to 375W.

Fourteen models encompassing outputs from 0 to 300V at power levels of 90 to 375W make up the L series of linear dc benchtop power supplies. Offered in small-, medium-, high-, and triple-output configurations, these supplies are useful as either voltage or current sources. The triple-output version provides three independent and isolated outputs: two adjustable from 0 to 100% of voltage and current rating and one fixed at 5V/3A. Prices start at $335. Sorensen Division of Elgar Corp, San Diego, CA. (619) 450-0085.

Mini board-level dc/dc converters furnish 1W.

Housed in 24-pin DIPs, the ASD-01 series of 1W dc/dc converters accepts inputs of either 5 or 12V dc and supplies single and dual outputs of 5, 12, ±12, and ±15V dc. I/O isolation is 500V dc. All of the converters supply full continuous power over the ambient temperature range of –25 to +718C without external heat-sinking or forced-air cooling. Prices start at $29. Astrodyne, Taunton, MA. (508) 823-8080.

UPS offers tough battery-survival system.

Covering a power range of 600 VA to 2.2 kVA, the Survivor Pro series of compact UPSs employs a battery-backup system that provides triple-stage charging and advanced battery monitoring and control to extend battery life for as long as 10 yr. For applications requiring battery backup for both ac and dc power, the manufacturer offers a 5-kVA UPS that provides one 120V ac and one 48V dc output. The 5-kVA supply costs $9500.
