| The 2.65-liter Honda V8 engine generates more than 780 hp at 13,000 rpm and is controlled by a Motorola-designed engine control unit (ECU). The engines of IndyCar and F1 cars are actually an integral part of the frame, and the wheels and transmissions are bolted directly onto the back of the engine(fig 2). Here's another look at an IndyCar engine. This one, from Mercedes Benz, pumps out 850 HP at 13,800 RPM. That's a lot of power for a 2.65 liter engine that weighs only 280 lbs.(fig 2a) | ||
