Tackle real-time
applications with Windows NT
Following the precedent of the PC
architecture, the Windows NT operating
system has entered the embedded-systems
arena. For the right applications, it can
be a contender.

Communications
Products Special Section
Communications is one field that we
believe merits special attention, so we
present a sampling of new communications
products that caught our eye. Take a
look; you might well find something you
could use.
Push numerically
controlled oscillators beyond their
limits
NCOs can generate signals of less than 1
Hz to many tens of megahertz that still
have millihertz resolution. By
understanding their operating subtleties,
you can use NCOs in more applications
than you may have thought possible.

Build a smart
analog transmitter with a µC and
low-power components
Analog transmitters have evolved from
simple 4- to 20-mA current loops to
designs that include mCs for signal
conditioning at the transmitters and
designs that allow bidirectional digital
communication.
