Enter our contest and win $100

[This month's widget. You'll have to load this image if you want to play the game.]

You might not think, from a quick look, that this photo shows something useful to electronics engineers. You might even think you're looking at something from science fiction. The picture does show something useful, however, and we'll identify it in a future issue.

For now though, wouldn't you like to win $100 just by thinking about what this nifty item could be? You can, if you come up with the cleverest name for it or description of it in EDN's Name That Widget contest. We'll publish the winning entry and some of the best runner-up entries in a future issue. We'll also identify the widget's real purpose and tell you how to contact the manufacturer for more information about it. (In the meantime, we beg the manufacturer for patience and a sense of humor.)

To enter our Name That Widget contest, just send us a name for the widget or a description of the widget's purpose. Send your entry or entries (multiple entries OK), along with the issue date, by email (widget@edn.cahners.com), by fax (Wallace P. Widget, 1-617-558-4470) or by smail mail (Wallace P. Widget, EDN Magazine, 275 Washington St., Newton, MA 02458).

Deadline for entries: September 11, 1998

Look for a Name That Widget contest in every issue.
