| Mike Shonle of Input Software wins the Name That Widget! contest for EDNs August 17 issue. Mike
identified the contest widget (shown left) as a numerically controlled hydropneumatic head
scratcher. Its use, Mike says, is to enhance software-development productivity by enabling
engineers to puzzle over bugs without removing their hands from the keyboard. Good
guess, Mike, and one that we like. In real life, however, our August 17 widget is the S465
spray robot system from CRS Robotics Corp (www.crsrobotics.com).
Its controlled by a transputer, and its articulated arm has six degrees of freedom
for programmed painting of variously shaped objects. One of the S465s greatest
advantages is that it greatly reduces human exposure to potentially harmful vapors.
To enter our latest contest, with a prize of $100, check out the device
shown below, and Name That Widget! Send your entry (or entries), along with the issue
date, by e-mail (widget@edn.cahners.com), by
fax (Wallace P Widget, 1-617-558-4470), or by snail mail (Wallace P Widget, EDN Magazine,
275 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02458).
