Category: RFICs
Finalist: MB86L01A RF transceiver, Fujitsu Microelectronics

The Fujitsu MB86L01A is a transceiver with surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters and low-noise amplifiers (LNAs). Applications include mobile phones, mobile Internet devices, data cards and embedded modules. On a triple-band UMTS phone, the Fujitsu MB86L01A eliminates three TX SAWs and three RX SAWs, a triple-band LNA and three baluns. Automated self-calibration routines optimize and maintain system performance in critical areas.

The programming API reduces development time. The MB86L01A also provides layer-one programming and embed-ded intelligence. With this approach, an engineer enters a single command for a previously complex task such as start-ing a 2G TX burst. This command sets all the radio and front-end parameters and times all the events so that system compliance is virtually assured.
