&& PREVIOUS FINALIST | MAIN | NEXT FINALIST >> Category: Software/Embedded Tools Finalist: PSoC Creator embedded-design tool, Cypress Semiconductor ![]() Cypress introduced the PSoC Creator embedded design tool for its new PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip architectures to enable the ability to use programmable resources to create, change, and reuse designs quickly and efficiently in software. PSoC Creator combines a C-based development flow with automatically generated software APIs for the components in a design. A C-based flow enables portability across both the 8-bit PSoC 3 and 32-bit PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip architectures. The tool’s boot code and component APIs can be re-targeted to new devices, regardless of the CPU, with just a re-build of the application. The APIs are consistently named so designers do not need to learn esoteric register names and write complex macros to manipulate bit-fields. PSoC Creator has all the features of a modern cross-debugger plus a unique peripheral debug window that shows the status of the internals of on-chip components. Central to the principles behind PSoC Creator is design reuse. The PSoC Creator library includes hardware configurations—creating components is as easy as drawing the design, having the tool generate a symbol to represent it, and storing it in a personal library for reuse in future designs. The encapsulation of a working design into a reusable component makes it quick and easy to create future designs with fewer errors and less cluttered schematics. |
