&& PREVIOUS FINALIST | MAIN | NEXT FINALIST >> Category: Software/Embedded Tools Finalist: mbed microcontroller, ARM Holdings ![]() The ARM mbed microcontroller rapid prototyping tools and developer platform enable designers to prototype with modern microcontrollers. One of the main barriers to widespread adoption of modern microcontrollers is successfully building a first prototype. Features of the mbed platform include a microcontroller hardware form factor suitable for prototyping, an integrated programmer that works like a USB flash drive, online compiler tools that require no installation and are available wherever you log in, software libraries that allow interaction with microcontroller peripherals without implementation expertise, and online developer resources that enable reuse and collaboration. The mbed platform required combining cutting edge microcontroller technology, customer-led hardware form factors, library architecture design, cloud-based tools, and web 2.0 developer resources along with investing in the research, development, trials and an experienced team. What originally began as a skunk works project by ARM employees was adopted by ARM R&D, later formed into an ARM product group, and ultimately launched in September 2009 in conjunction with ARM Partners. |
