&& PREVIOUS FINALIST | MAIN | NEXT FINALIST >> Category: Power ICs: General Converters Finalist: IRS2530D DIM8 IC dimming electronic ballast (International Rectifier) The new IRS2530D IC includes all of the necessary functions for smooth dimming and protection against fault conditions. The dimming mini-ballast circuit provides excellent performance with less than 50 components. The small unique 8-pin package together with low component count allows for the complete design to be realized in the small mini-ballast form factor. To adjust the circuit for different lamp types, power levels or line input voltages, IR offers a free “Ballast Design Assistant” software program. It helps engineers get their ballast designs working on the bench quickly and allows them to select from different line input voltage ranges, lamp types and lamp configurations, and then generates necessary ballast output data, IC programmable component values, inductor specifications, and the complete schematics and bill of materials.Dimming electronic ballasts offer an increase in energy savings while providing an attractive dimming feature to the end user. Much additional circuitry is needed to provide an isolated dimming interface for the user and to control the lamp brightness smoothly down to low levels. Existing dimming solutions require many external components preventing the design from fitting into the existing small matchbox size while maintaining a low cost. Due to this, electronic ballast vendors do not typically offer dimmable mini-ballast products. The IRS3530D is an innovative answer for designers who want to provide dimmable compact fluorescent bulbs or other mini-ballast products. |
