Finalist: MW90010A C-OTDR (Coherent OTDR) (Anritsu)

The MW9001A coherent OTDR can measure optical submarine cables as long as 12,000 km with 100 times the accuracy of previous instruments. The instrument’s accuracy of ±0.2 nm over the 1535.03- to 1565.08-nm wavelength range is achieved because the MW90010A has a built-in tunable light source. This type of performance makes the C-OTDR well suited for all WDM systems. In addition to fault detection, the C-OTDR also captures important waveform data relating to cable loss, bending loss, and fiber length to support detailed cable evaluation. A compact and lightweight design makes the MW90010A 70% smaller than previous competitive offerings, the company reports, providing easier portability for use almost anywhere—including on board ships. It also has a friendlier design, with a large touch-panel screen control, keypad, rotary knob, USB, and remote access support.
