Freescale hires former AMD sales chief

Freescale Semiconductor announced today that it has appointed Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) veteran Henri Richard as its new senior VP and chief sales and marketing officer.
Richard announced in August plans to leave his post as chief sales and marketing officer at AMD, a sudden move that proved surprising to some industry watchers due to the fast approaching September 10 launch of AMD's highly-anticipated quad-core processors.
The effects of Richard's departure were amplified this week with the news that Rick Hegberg, AMD's senior VP of worldwide sales, has also made plans to depart from his post at the company.
Freescale has not disclosed financial terms of Richard's employment.
Prior to AMD, Henri held various leadership positions including executive VP of world wide operations for WebGain; VP sales and marketing, worldwide distribution and E-business for IBM; and VP EMEA strategic accounts for Seagate Technology. Henri received a bachelor's degree in science and technology from Ecole Nationale de Radiotechnique et Electronique Appliquee.
"Henri is a respected veteran of our industry and I am glad he has chosen to join the Freescale team," Michel Mayer, Freescale's chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "His expertise in developing customer solutions will accelerate our growth initiatives and build on Freescale's strong market position."
