Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) teamed up with two of its "Better By Design" partners, programmable graphics player NVIDIA and wireless semiconductor technology provider Broadcom, this week to showcase the abilities of its currently-shipping Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile processors based on 65-nm process technology.
AMD debuted its Better By Design ecosystem earlier this year as a method of providing design support for technologies for Microsoft Windows Vista-based desktop and notebook PCs.
Included in the Turion 64 X2 processor family are two new parts, TL-58 and a new higher performing part, TL-66. According to the companies, the AMD-based mobile platform's processors and graphics chipsets will extend battery life to five hours, an hour more than previous AMD-based mobile platforms. The mobile platforms purport to deliver a superior Windows Vista experience for end-users. In addition, AMD claimed that its silicon-on-insulator technology provides increased transistor performance, scalability and power efficiency.
Notebook PCs based on the new AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile technology will be available later this quarter in designs from unspecified "leading computer manufacturers," AMD said.
