Intel countersues Transmeta

By Colleen Taylor -- EDN, January 12, 2007

Top-ranked chipmaker Intel Corp. has fired back against patent infringement claims from Transmeta Corp. http://www.transmeta.com with a lawsuit of its own, according to an Associated Press report.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Delaware, Intel reportedly alleged that Transmeta has infringed seven of its patents.

Intel's suit is in response to a claim filed by Transmeta in October that alleged that Intel has infringed on 10 computer architecture and power saving technologies patents owned by Transmeta. Transmeta's suit said the patents in question have been used in $100 billion worth of Intel products.

In Intel's response this week, it denied any wrongdoing on its part and instead accused Transmeta of infringing on six patents that cover kinds of chip features and one that covers an "apparatus for controlling power usage," according to the AP report.

Reps at Intel and Transmeta could not be reached for immediate comment.
