Qualcomm Supports Samsung OneNAND

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s OneNAND got a nod of approval from Qualcomm today, as the two companies announced the flash memory will be supported by new Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets.
Support for the fusion memory, already available on a few MSM chipsets, will be extended to a much wider range of upcoming multimedia-rich products now being optimized to take full advantage of OneNAND's high performance, the duo said.
“OneNAND's performance coupled with the versatility of Qualcomm’s chipsets will help drive exciting new handset designs and applications,” said Mike Concannon, VP of strategic products for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, in a statement. “We are pleased to be working with Samsung in helping to drive commercialization of the most compelling 3G multimedia capabilities.”
OneNAND runs at a 17MB/sec. write speed to support guaranteed continuously streaming air downloads beyond the HSDPA ( High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) specification, a benefit as the industry moves toward 3G-based content-centric services. OneNAND memory is now available with up to 2Gb capacity using 60nm production technology. That will be expanded to 4Gb at 50nm in 2007, Samsung said.
Samsung recently followed up OneNAND with OneDRAM, a 133MHz 512Mb device that incorporates a dual-port approach that Samsung said sharply decreases the time that it takes to transfer data between processors.
