UMC sales dip again

By Ann Steffora Mutschler, Senior Editor -- EDN, December 7, 2006

Taipei, Taiwan-based semiconductor manufacturing foundry United Microelectronics Corp. today reported that sales for November were $269 million (8.7 billion Taiwanese dollars), down 7.7 percent from $291.3 million (9.4 billion TWD) and 4 percent lower than October sales of $280.1 million (9 billion TWD).

However, for the first 11 months of the year, sales totaled $2.96 billion (95.7 billion TWD), 17.1 percent higher than the same time period in 2005.

UMC has been timid with its financial predictions for the full year due to inventory issues in the chip industry worldwide.
