Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) developer Qualcomm Inc. and Continental AG, a global automotive supplier, have entered into a CDMA2000 telematics module license agreement.
Under the terms of the royalty-bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Continental a worldwide license under its CDMA patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000 telematics modules.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"This license agreement will enable Continental to enhance its automotive supply business with the addition of Qualcomm CDMA wireless technologies and adds a new and exciting capability to its telematics product line," Bill Kozyra, president and CEO of Continental Automotive Systems North America, said in a statement.
"Vehicle manufacturers can now offer drivers advanced wireless communications and safety solutions that help avoid and minimize the effects of crashes, including features such as post crash safety and emergency assistance of occupants while on the road," he added.
This isn't the first major agreement the San Diego, Calif.-based Qualcomm has inked in recent months.
In August, Qualcomm shelled out $18 million in cash to acquire Qualphone Inc., a provider of IP-based multimedia subsystems embedded client software solutions for mobile devices and interoperability testing services.
