Dell Battery Replacements to Take 20 Days

Staff Reporter -- EDN, August 17, 2006

Dell Inc.'s battery recall has proven to be a massive undertaking for the company. Right now, replacements for the recalled batteries will take 20 days to reach customers, according to a corporate blog entry written by Lionel Menchaca, Dell's digital media manager.

The company has begun shipping new batteries to replace potentially dangerous ones installed in laptops sold between April 2004 and July 2006.

"Some of the batteries we recalled are no longer in mass production, which means we've had to reactivate production of these batteries through our suppliers," Menchaca wrote in the entry. "We are doing everything we can to maximize battery supplies from every one of our suppliers worldwide."

Additionally, shipment times may vary depending on which model batteries are in the most demand at any given time. Dell reported that changes in lead times will be reported on the blog
