Suntech Establishes U.S. Subsidiary

China-based photovoltaic cell manufacturer Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. has established an American subsidiary, Suntech America Inc., the company reported today.

Suntech America is a wholly-owned corporation that will be based in Delaware. Further details on the company were not provided.

“Suntech is a fast growing player in the solar market, and we are especially interested in the long-term potential of the U.S. market for residential and commercial applications,” said Zhengrong Shi, chairman and CEO of Suntech, in a statement.

“'Through our U.S. subsidiary, Suntech America, we intend to establish long-term relationships with U.S. companies that share our vision of promoting the uses of alternative energy,” he continued.

Roger Efird will serve as president of Suntech America and will also serve on its board of directors. For the last 20 years, Efird has been actively involved in solar module sales, distribution, and marketing.

“Our immediate objectives include the continuation of a regular, dependable supply of solar modules to our existing customers, the establishment of a warehouse facility on the west coast, and pursuing new relationships with U.S. customers,” Efird concluded.
