UMC March Sales Climb Monthly, 20% Year over Year

Taiwanese foundry giant United Microelectronics Corp. said today that the sales growth foundries have enjoyed in the beginning of this year is continuing as the industry heads into spring.
The world’s second largest pure play foundry reported March sales of approximately $260.8 million ($8,456 million new Taiwanese dollars), a more than 20 percent increase year-on-year. Both UMC and its larger rival, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., have seen sales rise both sequentially and year over year in recent months.
UMC's March sales were 12.4 percent higher than its February sales of approximately $232.5 million ($7.521 million NT). Sales since the beginning of this year have totaled approximately $754.3 million ($24.384 billion NT), a 20.2 percent jump over January-March 2005 sales.
