Tarari Commits to Opteron, HyperTransport

Staff Reporter -- EDN, June 1, 2006

Tarari, an ASIC design house and software company specializing in acceleration components, today announced the company's commitment to support AMD's Opteron processors and the HyperTransport (HT) interface.

The San Diego-based company's next line of multi-core content processing ASICs will natively support AMD Opteron processors and HT. The move allows Tarari's chips to be interconnected in low-latency, high-bandwidth configurations with Opteron processors. Tarari's acceleration components are designed to snap in to networking, appliance, blades and server systems.

The current Tarari T9000 content processor incorporates dual regular expression engines each capable of processing 1.6Gbps and can also manage up to four  additional engines, bringing the throughput to more than 7Gbps, the company said.

Tarari's next specialized chips will enhance network security, XML, and digital media solutions for AMD Opteron-based systems, the company said.

"Our combined ability with Tarari to accelerate intensive content processing can enable our OEM customers to significantly enhance the functionality of their systems, and allows them to create outstanding Network Security and XML appliances, blades, and switches," said Randy Allen, corporate VP of the server and workstation business at AMD, in a statement.
