San Jose-based solar cell and solar panel manufacturer SunPower Corp. reported today that its Spanish subsidiary will put together a solar power plant in the Extremadura region of Spain, capable of producing approximately 8 megawatts solar electric power annually.
An affiliate of the Spain-based Naturener Group will own the plant, and SunPower expects the system will begin operating in September.
Marco Antonio Northland, general manager of SunPower’s European operations reminded that this is not the first deal with Naturener. In November, the companies announced that SunPower would build three solar power generation plants in Spain for Naturener.
SunPower, a majority-owned subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., inked a number of deals over the past year, setting the stage for another strong year in the solar power generation market.
Just last month, SunPower acquired an Italian solar systems integrator to serve as a platform for gaining market share in the Italian solar market.
