Image processing gets its tools going

By Bill Schweber -- EDN, October 14, 2004

With the increasing availability of low-cost videocameras, plus general-purpose processors and DSPs to handle the video-stream output, designers still need tools to develop their ever-more-sophisticated algorithms. The Video and Image Processing Blockset from The Mathworks lets you build models, simulate algorithms, assess system behavior, develop your C code, and verify the software and design performance (Picture). The C code you develop with this package can be in fixed- or floating-point mode, and you can migrate between these two data types in the same model. Applications include image extraction and recognition, object edge detection, and image completion and assessment. The $1000 package runs on Windows, Unix, Linux, and Macintosh platforms.
