Capacitor adds lead, loses ESL

By Bill Schweber -- EDN, September 16, 2004

Murata’s 0603-size capacitor uses a modified electrode structure and adds a third terminal to reduce ESL (equivalent series resistance) to one-fifth the value of comparable units. It improves high-frequency filtering and provides 50- to 70-dB insertion loss in the 0.1- to 1-GHz range. The surface-mount NFM18PS is currently available only in the frequently used 0.47-ìF value and sells for 11 cents (small quantities).
