Online staff -- EDN, November 21, 2003
While others gave up on the region, moving investments to China, Broadcom Corp. today reaffirmed its commitment to Taiwan, announcing plans to expand its SOC research and development center in Hsinchu and to more than triple the number of engineers at the facility.
The center focuses on Broadcom's networking and multimedia gateway technology and products, and will see its engineer headcount jump from 40 to 125 over the next three years.
"Taiwan is home to world-class integrated circuit foundry facilities and high caliber IC engineering design talent," Henry Samueli, Broadcom's chairman and CTO, said in a statement. "With the tremendous growth opportunities in Asia, we have identified Taiwan as a key location from which to deploy our people. By leveraging our R&D, technical support and sales capabilities in Taiwan, Broadcom is effectively strengthening local customer and strategic relationships in this important and dynamic region."
Broadcom further said the center will work closely with local research and academic institutions and area industry.
