WinSystems has introduced the PPM-CardBus, a PC/104-Plus module that supports both CardBus and PCMCIA cards (Picture). The module adapts off-the-shelf computing functions, such as requiring 802.11a, b, and g wireless networking; Bluetooth; IEEE-1394 FireWire; USB 2.0; SCSI; and high-speed Ethernet to mobile embedded applications.
The PPM-Cardbus module supports 32-bit PC Cards operating at bus speeds as high as 33 MHz yet also retains compatibility with older, 16-bit PC cards. The CardBus hot-insertion and plug-and-play capabilities let you treat a card-resident CardBus device as a normal PCI device for configuration and usage. You can also add and remove CardBus devices to or from the system at will. Plug-in cards plug into a 68-pin mating connector fit between the PC/104 and the PC/104-Plus connectors.
The 5V-only PPM-Cardbus board and contains an onboard 3.3V linear regulator that can supply as much as 1A to the card socket. The PPM-CardBus sells for $129, and delivery time is from stock to three weeks.
