Cool-running and micropower may be the rage, but many automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications need high temperature and current capability. The HT series of power inductors from JW Miller Magnetics meets those needs with current ratings as high as 20A for some inductance values and an operating temperature range of –40 to +200°C (Picture). These toroidal units are self-shielding with low EMI radiation and are available in inductances of 10 to 1000 μH. Size depends on inductance; nominal thickness is approximately 1/3 in. (8 mm), and nominal diameter is 0.8 in. (20 mm). You can order these wire-lead inductors for horizontal or vertical mounting; prices range from 85 cents to $1.75, depending on inductance and quantity.
