EU Confirms Hynix Tariffs
Online staff -- EDN, August 12, 2003
The European Union today confirmed its 34.8 percent tariff on imports from Hynix Semiconductor Inc., according to the Associated Press.
The original ruling came in April when the EU found that the South Korean government had unfairly subsidized the chipmaker. That decision was to last only four months. In today's decision, however, the duties have been extended to five years, according to the report.
Despite complaints that it received the same advantages as Hynix, the EU did not impose any duties on Samsung Electronics Co., it was said.
This follows a U.S. ruling for 44 percent duties on Hynix chips.
Hynix could not be reached for comment.
