Privately held Athena Semiconductors Inc. officially launched today, offering RF, DSP and high-performance architectures for wireless networking.
The Fremont, Calif.-based start up, plans to deliver chips for leading-edge wireless networking applications. The company recently closed a $5 million series A round of funding led by Alliance Ventures.
Formed in January, Athena was created by acquiring technologies from ComSilica Inc. and Hellenic Semiconductor Applications (HSA). Based in Fremont, Calif., the company also has design centers in Athens, Greece, and Bangalore, India.
Athena said it is developing a low-cost, high bandwidth, differentiated products to address what it said is a lack of accessible bandwidth and a confusion of standards for enterprise and home networking and inter-device communications.
"We have worked hard over the last few months to bring together world class technology and engineering teams, appropriately leveraging areas of expertise worldwide," said Pratap Reddy, CEO of Athena, in a statement. "We are now well positioned to bring our superior, cost effective wireless LAN technology to market and follow up with a broad range of semiconductor products for a wide variety of wireless applications."
