Bluetooth update

Several companies unveiled products at the Bluetooth Developer's Conference, which took place on Dec 11 to 13 in San Francisco.

SiGe announced its 2.4 GHz SE2520L linear power amplifier for Class 1 applications, which offers 22-dBm linear output power and a typical power consumption of 138 mA. Price is 80 cents (100,000).

Silicon Wave introduced the SiW1701 and SiW1702 CDMA-chip-set-compatible and SiW1703 GSM-chip-set-compatible radio modems, each selling for $5 (100,000), and various 32-bit ARM-based baseband processors with 256 kbytes of ROM or flash.

MindTree Consulting announced its EtherMind Bluetooth baseband architecture, which complies with Bluetooth 1.1 and is available as a synthesizable Verilog core and includes Link Manager Protocol and host-controller-interface firmware.

Extended Systems has released an add-on module supporting the Bluetooth hard-copy-cable-replacement profile to its Xtndaccess Blue software-development kit with support for the basic printing profile. New test products included Agilent's E1852 Bluetooth test set for establishing Bluetooth links and measuring key RF parameters.

Tektronix has released Version 2.2 software for its BPA100 Bluetooth Protocol Analyzer, which offers extended analysis of the Bluetooth stack and a revamped user interface.

Tality announced that its Bluetooth baseband-controller Internet Protocol and lower protocol stack have received 1.1 qualification.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has released a human-input-device definition for devices such as mice and keyboards; adoption, definition, and prototype devices should emerge by midyear.

Conexant offered a Bluetooth/V.90 modem reference design that integrates Impulsesoft's iBTStack embedded protocol stack onto the Conexant CX81400 baseband controller. Conexant also announced an embedded-stack-development platform for its ARM7TDMI baseband controller.

Oki Semiconductor announced a Bluetooth reference design, co-developed with Adamya, a Bluetooth Ethernet-access-point reference design; co-developed with Ubicom, and a Bluetooth module-system-development kit measuring 95×55 mm.

Adamya has ported its C-Blue Bluetooth baseband and protocol stack to the Tensilica Xtensa configurable microprocessor architecture.
