Receiver targets terrestrial DVB
-- EDN, January 18, 2001
NxtWave Communications' single-chip NXT6000 COFDM (code-orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing) receiver targets the DVB-T (digital-video-broadcasting-terrestrial) standard in use in Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia and South America. The device supports all modes of the DVB-T standard, including hierarchical COFDM modes, and meets mandatory NorDig requirements for digital TV in Nordic regions, such as Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The chip includes an OFDM demodulator with Viterbi and Reed Solomon forward error correction and a 10-bit ADC, allowing the device to operate in the presence of strong static and dynamic multipath interference. Supporting both high- and low-IF tuner architectures using either 36- or 4.57-MHz IF, the device uses a 2.5V core and consumes less than 800 mW. Available in 64-pin LQFPs, the NXT6000 costs $15 (10,000), and production quantities are available.
